My first Spokeshave is from Kunz. It has a thin iron and a large throat, so that the results thereby are disappointing.

So the two emphasis of my construction was a thick Iron and a close throat.

As material I selected brass, since it can be milled easily and the wear will remain within limits , as the Spokeshave is rarer used than the other planes.

The first step was to choose an iron. A Iron of Ron Hook, which was meant actually for a smoother of the Krenov' design, corresponded in the dimensions , even if it is too long somewhat. Since I had to do this time without an adjustable throat, the difficulty lay to arrange the dimensions in such a way that the throat is as close as possible.

The result is a gap of 0,1mm. (0.004 inch)

At the time of the photos,  the grasps were unfortunately not finished , so that I used simply long screws as grasps.

The Iron is pressed by a bar over 2 tightening screws on the iron bed.

Here one of the final grasps is already installed.

The Adjustement of the iron is quite simple: Lay down the Spokeshave on a flat surface and put the iron into the Spokeshave until it reaches the flat surface . Then you can thigthen the scews.

As with the other planes, then also the Spokeshave  exceeded my expectations. Even with difficult grain direction  it develops a smooth wood surface without tearouts. The dimensions can be surely still optimized so that the Spokeshave  does not have heavy appearance...

I.....
